Word Walls
When to use:
- to highlight vocabulary words
- gain experience with key vocabulary words
- to repeatedly expose students to key vocabulary words over time
How to use:
1. Teacher prepares a word wall in the classroom. It can be divided by unit, be alphabetical, or be "random".
2. Teacher introduces word wall to students and puts several words on it for the first unit. Some word walls just have the
words while others have the word and the definition.
3. As you continue the unit, students can also suggestion words for the word wall from the reading or class discussions.
4. Teachers can use the word wall for a variety of vocabulary activities and students refer to the word wall when they're
writing.
